Riko lives in Orth, a town surrounding the giant hole known as the Abyss. Lyza is one of the few legendary Cave Raiders to earn the title of White Whistle. She was presumed dead after taking a "last descent" into the lower regions where the Curse of the Abyss becomes fatal upon ascension. The deeper one goes, the more acute these effects become; few who descend return. Despite her fearsome reputation as a top raider, she is central to Riko's life through her absence and legacy.

In Their Own Story

One day, findings were made from the depths of the Abyss that changed everything for Riko. These included Lyza's White Whistle and pages of discoveries and observations she had made. Crucially, they contained a message presumably for Riko stating she is waiting at the bottom of the Abyss. Determined to find her mother based on this message, Riko bids farewell to her friends and secretly departs into the Abyss with Reg as her companion.

Reader's Guide

Lyza's status drives the entire plot of the first arc. Her White Whistle and observation pages were recovered from the depths, serving as the catalyst for Riko's departure.
